Barnie the Crab Curriculum
A fun way to teach elementary-school students about the Barnegat Bay Watershed

Thanks to a grant from the Trust for Public Land’s Barnegat Bay Environmental Grant Fund, the BBWEF has created an entertaining and educational curriculum for students in kindergarten through third grade. Consisting of 12 lesson plans and supporting handout materials, this innovative program teaches kids about the importance of the Barnegat Bay Watershed and related environmental and cultural issues.

To further promote excitement and enthusiasm, the Watershed Foundation also offers a teacher loan kit that includes Barnie the Crab costume props and a Barnie the Crab character cutout photo prop. It is hoped that students will bring their fun photos home and share with their parents the value of protecting Barnegat Bay’s natural resources.

The goal of this project is foster an environmental ethic in all citizens of the watershed, beginning with our young schoolchildren.
