"I am pleased to have accepted the nomination for President of
the Barnegat Bay Watershed Association. I am looking forward to this opportunity as
it will be a time of growth for myself and for the organization. With the new
structure, officers, and members, I am sure we will be headed in a wonderful direction for
our watershed.
This is a special issue of Watershed Waves, as it
highlights the first of our series of seminars. Personal Watercraft Conflicts was chosen
as our first topic, due to the timeliness of the summer season and the miscommunication
that surrounds the issues if proper use of crafts. The seminar was a great opportunity for
all interested parties to have an open dialogue. The outcomes and the synthesis are
described in the body of this newsletter. There is also a national update on the
issue of Personal Watercraft (PWC), as many communities around the country are restricting
or banning the use of the craft based on safety and environmental concerns.
Also, within this newsletter is a copy of a letter encouraging
education and enforcement of the PWC user. This was drafted by three of our board
members. I encourage all members to take the time to send this letter to the addressees
listed.
The membership is the most important part of the BBWA and we look
forward to increasing our communication with each of you. Watch for a notice of our
next seminar to be held in the fall of this year. We plan on hosting two seminars and two
membership development meetings throughout the year.
Thank you for your continues interest in the BBWA. I hope you
all have been having a happy and healthy summer.
For the Watershed,
Angela C. Andersen, President
